That’s right folks, we live mostly in a ‘we don’t know’ place. We are programmed to select the bits of information to which we turn our attention, form an ‘attachment’ to those bits, and then live in it as our reality, as though it really is real:-)
For the most part, this could be OK, as long as we did not rule out all other possibilities or, worse, be convinced of our right to over-rule those possibilities with which others live (as their reality!). But we do get locked in and then it is war – you know we do, right? Check out the world around us…I rest my case.
Now, we don’t need to leap from the frying pan into the fire in an attempt to overturn everything, simply begin to reflect on opening the mind to the knowledge that there is a greater reality than the one that our reticular activating system has locked onto.
Reticular Activating System – heard of it? Well is is a simple, albeit complex, safety mechanism that helps us to survive by sorting out all the kazillion, bazillion (very scientific terms…not) bits of information with which we are bombarded continually. If there was no sorting, sifting and such we would go into overload and it would be to our peril. But we make the mistake of forgetting that we are making it all up based on a limited amount of input.
So…the key is to stay open to a gentle awareness that we are not looking at the ‘big picture’ and stay in that delightful child-like state of curiosity. This is what contributes to children’s rapid growth and learning speed. They are open and curious.
We must therefore learn to establish a place of equanimity through clear thinking regarding what serves us well without 1) becoming attached to it as the only “right” way and/or 2) making everything else wrong, rendering it to be of no possible value.
Because we could choose to align with the awareness that we don’t know what we don’t know, we would thereby remain available to truly creative thought forms. It has been said that few thoughts we live by are truly original…are yours?
…because we DON’T know what we don’t KNOW. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? By your actions you will know them…
